Medicare Part C is also known as a Medicare Advantage Plan. If you enroll in one of these plans, you generally get all of your Medicare-covered health care through the plan. This coverage can include prescription drug coverage.
Medicare Advantage plans include:
Medicare Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO)
Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO)
Private Free-for-Service Plans (PFFS)
Medicare Special Needs Plans (SNP)
To join a Medicare Advantage plan, you must be enrolled in Part A and Part B. You usually pay a monthly premium (in addition to your Part B premium) and a copayment or coinsurance for covered services. Like many managed care programs, depending on the plan you choose, you may have to see doctors that belong to the plan (“in-network”) or go to certain hospitals to get services (except for emergency care). The premiums and extra coverage covered by the insurance provider and the exclusions will vary by the plan.
Plans are insured or covered by a Medicare Advantage (HMO, PPO and PFFS) organization with a Medicare contract and/or a Medicare-approved Part D sponsor. Enrollment in the plan depends on the plan’s contract renewal with Medicare. We do
not offer every plan in your area. Please contact medicare.gov or 1-800-Medicare to get information on all your options.
